With the end of Apartheid in South Africa, foreign companies were free to return to this diverse and lucrative market. Though most existed in the market until a 12-year worldwide boycott, the challenge faced by marketers was in the planning and implementing an effective re-launch. Kimberly Clark based its return upon a cause marketing partnership with the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund, South African Broadcasting, and supermarket chain Shoprite. The program launched a nationwide series of community concerts benefiting children, while promoting Kimberly Clarks multiple brands through special events, media and POS. The campaign re-introduced the brand while creating a close bond with customers.
