Case In Point
When a new California law required all counties & municipalities to test for bacteria resulting from household & industrial waste run-off risked between a 10% and 50% increase in beach closures, a significant threat to the region's economy & way of life…the City of San Diego had to respond. The City and its agency designed and implemented a cause marketing partnership that attracted financial, educational & outreach support from state & local organizations & corporations throughout the county. The program, named Think Blue™, included financial support & input from San Diego County, the Port Authority & Caltrans, & over $1 million in promotional & creative support from the ABC television affiliate, who made the program a community campaign. The campaign succeeded in leveraging limited marketing knowledge and funds ($200,000) into $1.6 million environmental education partnership. The City now use this intellectual property as a fundraising tool by marketing & sales to other municipalities nationally.
